Oldfield Park Juniors
PHD were appointed as building surveyors and project managers for the replacement of a Victorian school roof in Bath. The school were suffering from multiple area of water ingress, severely disrupting school operations. The existing fibre cement roof covering was removed and a new natural slate roof installed. There were numerous design features retained, and the covering involved a combination of lead and artificial lead. The building sat within a conservation area and PHD applied and achieve consent, and the works were successful delivered over the summer period.
St Martin’s Garden Primary School
PHD successfully prepared and secured Salix decarbonisation funding for the installation of Air Source Heat Pumps at St Martins Gardens Primary School in Bath. The works involved the complete removal of gas fired boilers and the installation of new electric air source heat pumps. The carbon savings achieved in relation to the project are 81 tonnes of carbon per year, which is the carbon equivalent of 49 cars per year. The overall investment in the school exceeded £1m.
University of Bristol
PHD have delivered a number of projects across the Universities Campus’s. These include a number of complex laboratory refits, data and fire protection and enhancements, multi million pound fire alarm upgrades, complex refurbishments to include works to transform a veterinary teaching facility to a head office space, modern ways of working refurbishments and creation of general teaching and learning spaces.
One specific project involved The University of Bristol appointing PHD as Lead Designer, Principal Designer, Cost Consultant and Project Managers to deliver the complex refurbishment of an existing space into a radioactive laboratory. The laboratory now facilitates research into the management and disposal of radioactive waste. This was handed over in 2024 on time and on budget.
